Harry Mitchell outraises Hayworth.

Our friend cpmaz at Random Musings has done us the kindness of compiling some encouraging figures on the CD-5 race fundraising for the month of October.

Harry Mitchell is outraising Hayworth at the grassroots level and overall.

Mitchell also has a far higher percentage of funds coming in from private individuals (80% of his donations come from individuals), while Hayworth's funds are more significantly from PACs and lobbyists (accounting for a whopping 41% of his donations).

Cpmaz notes that this reinforces the observation by the Phoenix Business Journal that "corporate money is propping up the Republican electoral machine:"

The roster of campaign contributors to Kyl and Arizona GOP Congressmen Rick Renzi, J.D. Hayworth, John Shadegg and Trent Franks reads like the Fortune 500 with money coming from oil companies, defense contractors, pharmaceutical firms and business groups representing interests from venture capitalists and gasoline retailers to thoroughbred horse racers and beer wholesalers.

The five Arizona Republicans have raised more than $18 million this election cycle, much of it coming from corporate political action committees, industry associations and business executives.

It is quite telling that Harry Mitchell's message of responsible government is resonating with private citizens of Arizona, while Hayworth's biggest support is coming from corporate lobbyists.
