Huppenthal and Horne responsible for AZ education's LAST place ranking.

A new study by a Kansas research firm ranks Vermont as the "smartest state" in the nation -- with Arizona, well, at the other extreme.

Scott Morgan, president of Morgan Quitno Press, said he isn't necessarily calling Arizona the stupidest state.

But Morgan said that, whatever name you put on it, the 21 factors measured to determine education put Arizona dead last.

Given Senator Huppenthal's penchant for taking credit for pretty much everything good to ever happen in our state during his time in office - including some not-so-good (see also "housing speculation") - I look for him to swiftly embrace Arizona's dead last ranking in education as one of the results of all that education legislation he's so often crowing about.

Thank you, Senator Huppenthal, for helping to bring Arizona's education to the absolute bottom of the stack. And while you're at it, let State Superintendent of Public Instruction Horne up there on the stage with you.

No, no, don't be bashful, fellows! Take a bow! You've earned it. Last place is surely a remarkable achievement.
