Hayworth and Mitchell: Phone banking and Monday's debate!
I had a great time phone banking for Harry Mitchell tonight. Spoke to some great folks including a number of undecided Independents. After sharing with them some of the outstanding things about Harry Mitchell - a record of fiscal responsibility, a reputation for integrity and bipartisanship - they were definitely more in favor of voting for Mitchell.
One fellow was a small businessman concerned about the economy. I was pleased to be able to tell him about Harry Mitchell's track record of creating jobs and leading the revitalization of downtown Tempe. I shared how Harry Mitchell's approach to immigration reform is supported not only by Senator McCain, but also by numerous Arizona business groups, while Hayworth's approach is opposed by those same business groups as being dangerous to business in Arizona.
Another fellow was undecided and asked about some of the scurrilous attack ads Hayworth has aired against Mitchell. I was happy to share with him how, for example on the Social Security issue, TWO SEPARATE, nonpartisan organizations (AARP and FactCheck.org) had taken such exception to the false claims made by Hayworth that they specifically issued statements setting the record straight and vindicating Harry Mitchell.
I greatly enjoy speaking to the voters like this, because you get a chance to hear what people are really concerned about and help provide some information to enable them to make better informed choices.

The debate will be aired on KAET (8) on Wednesday night (tomorrow) at 7 p.m. With a recent poll showing that the two candidates are only one percentage apart, it looks like Harry Mitchell has overcome a huge voter registration disadvantage. By appealing across the board to Republicans and Democrats as well as common-sense Independents, Harry Mitchell is showing that reasonable, mature and responsible leadership is still valued.
And it shows that people are getting tired of JD Hayworth and his wedge issues, divisive rhetoric, lack of fiscal responsibility and doubletalk.
It's only 12 more days until the election. Harry Mitchell has the momentum, but he needs your help to carry him over the top. If you really want to see things get better, please vote for Harry Mitchell for Congress and put the responsible grown-ups back in charge of our government.
