Hayworth wants to punish the press for telling the truth

Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-Ariz., is circulating a letter on Capitol Hill that asks House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., to punish the New York Times by yanking its reporters' press credentials.

As one commented noted, Hayworth's posturing "isn't about national security this is about keeping Republicans in Congress."

If the Standing Committee of Correspondents has anything to say about it, the Times will keep its press credentials.

As with everything else on the Hill, there are rules about getting and keeping newspaper credentials, which are administered by the Standing Committee of Correspondents, which has no intention of stripping Times reporters of their purple Capitol Hill press passes.

"Under no circumstance would we revoke the credentials of the reporter
because the reporter's newspaper has upset a government office," said Boston Globe reporter Susan Milligan, who heads the standing committee.

However, decisions made by the SCC can be appealed to the House speaker and the Senate Rules Committee to be overturned.

Don't expect this to go anywhere, though. Just more political posturing from our "Representative". We really need to replace Hayworth on the House.
