Streets smart!
Two links related to making Chandler's streets look smarter, the first one about an upcoming purge of illegal signage and the second about an improvement of an intersection.
1. "Chandler code enforcers will comb the city for renegade roadside signs Thursday, a move to purge the streets of a blight that has been growing in recent months.
The signs, which promote things such as singles' Web sites, cheap mattresses, quick real estate deals and hair extensions, have become more plentiful recently, even though they're against the law in Chandler and most other Valley cities, police Sgt. Gregg Carr said.
During the all-day sweep, crews will uproot the ones pounded into the soil, take down those taped to utility poles and haul them to the city's garbage transfer station, said Carr, who oversees the city's code enforcement. His entire staff of seven and their four trucks will be assigned to the effort, which he said is likely to remove hundreds of the advertisements.
Political signs are protected but have time limits. Those for the May 16 City Council runoff are safe for now, but city law requires that they be taken down by May 26." Full story here.
2. "Chandler is preparing its fifth major intersection improvement in as many years. This time it's Arizona Avenue and Elliot Road, three miles north of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard where months of lane restrictions are weeks away from ending.
City spokesman Jim Phipps said there wouldn't be lane closures on the new project until summer; contractor Nesbitt Contracting Co. will start work behind the curbs.
City road officials are hosting a public information meeting at 6:30 p.m. today in Westmark Charter High School, 3002 N. Arizona Ave., Suite 116." Full story here.
