Southeast Valley League of Women Voters reenergizes, seeks members

The League of Women Voters formed in 1920 as a way to inform women—who had then only recently won the right to vote - on political issues of the day.

The Southeast Valley League of Women Voters Members at Large unit has served Queen Creek, Gilbert, Chandler and Apache Junction for the past two years, but the local group does not have enough participation to be considered an official league and is hoping to attract new members.

According to the local LWV interim chairwoman Pam Jackson, last year the group lost members and steam. At the start of this year, remaining members began meeting in an effort to reenergize, she said.

“We’re reincarnating it again,” Ms. Jackson said.
