Pederson-Kyl gap narrows to 7 points.

The US Senate isn't generally a topic on this blog, since it's covered pretty widely by lots of other blogs and mass media. But I did want to draw my readers' attention to a new Rocky Mountain poll that has just come out showing Democratic candidate for Senate Jim Pederson has narrowed the gap with Kyl to only 7 points, 40% to 33%.

You can get all the specific information via Lofty Donkey's post on this, here.

Three quick observations:

1. Kyl was ahead by 29 points in January. Pederson has whittled 22 points off of that lead in five months.

2. At only 40%, Kyl's overall favorable rating is well below the 50% danger threshhold for incumbents. Generally, when incumbents dip below that point, they are considered vulnerable. Being ten full points below that mark is extreme jeopardy.

3. This is still the case even when screening for "likely voters", where the numbers are 45% to 35%.

This race looks like it's shaping up to be a real competition!
