Hotel, airport and freeway growth in Chandler

Three links related to some future development in our community, one related to hotels near the Price-Santan intersection, another related to growth of Chandler Regional Airport, and a third related to the opening of a stretch of the Santan Freeway:

1. Hotels planned near Price-Santan 'little urban node' with big impact

Chandler could see a significant impact from the full-service hotels proposed for three corners of the intersection of Santan Freeway and Price Road, experts say.

If all of them are built, there could be 1,074 rooms, and more if the developer of the fourth corner fulfills his dream of an eight- or nine-story hotel.

"It's going to be a little urban node of activity there, with all the retail and offices and hotels," said Robert Mayfield of Lees Mayfield & Associates.

2. Director predicts continued growth for airport

Greg Chenoweth, 49, has been Chandler Municipal Airport director for 10 years and in the airport-management business since 1986. He has a private-pilot's license.

What does an airport manager do?

"I supervise, manage, plan, organize and direct the operations, development and administrative activities of the airport."

How can residents living around the airport get involved in plans for the facility's future?

"The city is updating the Airport Master Plan to identify its role in Chandler's future. Public meetings are a great way for residents to provide input, and these meetings are posted on the city's Web site: www.chandleraz.gov."

3. Santan opening cause for celebrations

The final stretch of the Santan Freeway opens soon, and a toast to this Southeast Valley milestone is in order.

The new 12-mile stretch will provide a non-stop connection between Interstate 10 and the Superstition Freeway, looping Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa together with Phoenix.
