1. US Representatives Hayworth (AZ-5) and Flake (AZ-6), whose districts overlap the two halves of Chandler, come down on opposite sides of price-gouging legislation. AZ delegation splits 3:5 opposed.

Flake, a staunch economic conservative from the East Valley, has warned against "populist" gimmicks for gas prices such as rebates and other measures aimed at big oil.

2. Gila River Tribal council nixes community college’s proposal to build. (No permalink.)

On Wednesday the Gila River Indian Community’s tribal council rejected a proposal by South Mountain Community College to build a campus on Indian land south of Ahwatukee Foothills. The college had been discussing the possibility of building a satellite campus on tribal lands south of Pecos Road, possibly near Desert Foothills Parkway, since 2003.

3. Arizona's CoppeRx drug discount card is now available to all ages.

Gov. Janet Napolitano Friday announced the state's discount prescription drug card will be available to all state residents.

The CoppeRx Card is a discount prescription card accepted by a number of pharmacy chains. It is similar to discount cards offered in other states and by health care and pharmaceutical companies. The CoppeRx Card was created by the governor in 2003 and originally went to senior citizens.

Chains such as Costco, Safeway, Target and Albertson's accept the card.
