Dems' "Red to Blue" program slates Mitchell for 2nd phase*

Following on an earlier post here on the Democratic Party's Red-to-Blue program, The Hill reported today that six candidates, including Harry Mitchell, have been shifted to phase two of the program's implementation to allow the 16 other candidates an early focus.

As reported earlier, Harry Mitchell raised over $200,000 within the first two weeks of declaring his candidacy. He will need substantially more to mount a campaign against the well funded incumbent Hayworth. You can donate to Mitchell's campaign through his web site, here. Every little bit helps!
[Update (May 10): The DCCC has corrected this story. It appears that this shift to Phase 2 was only for one large donor, and that Mitchell is still in the first tier of the program, overall.]

The neglected six are Darcy Burner, challenger to Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.); John Cranley, who is taking on Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio); Jill Derby, running for the vacant seat of Rep. James Gibbons (R-Nev.); Kirsten Gillibrand in Rep. John Sweeney’s (R-N.Y.) district; Tessa Hafen, challenger to Rep. Jon Porter (R-Nev.); and Harry Mitchell, running against Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.).My understanding of the strategy is that the candidates who most need campaign fund priming early on have been bumped up in priority. Strong candidates such as Mitchell, who have good name recognition and fundraising ability, are shifted to phase two to allow the weaker candidates to have the earlier focus.
A DCCC spokeswoman said the six would be included in the second phase of the program.
Bill Hyers, campaign manager for Gillibrand, said he is not concerned that his candidate was missing from the first fundraising effort.
“We’ve been given a timetable. I’ve been assured that we’ll get money before the end of the quarter,” he said.
A spokeswoman for Harry Mitchell was similarly unfazed.
“He definitely is on the list. ... [Rep.] Rahm Emanuel [D-Ill.] called him and told him so.”
