Superintendent Horne campaigning on public dime, again?

Following on recent questions into a possible election law violation, where Superintendent of Public Instruction Horne may well have been unethically using public funds and his state job to campaign politically, Geoff Esposito notes another possible infraction just this week. Evidently, the mandated AZ Report Card distributed by Horne's office looks much more like a campaign pamphlet than simply a report on the state of public instruction in Arizona.

First of all, Tom Horne's name is plastered ALL OVER IT. His name alone takes up 1/3rd of the front page, not to mention there is a HUGE picture of him plastered just under it. This is not the first time I've witnessed Horne frivolously peppering his name on a TAXPAYER FUNDED document for political purposes, heck, just check out the Department of Education website! It is obviously a political maneuver and it is disgustingly inappropriate.

But most offensive of all is the fact that this whole act of self-gratification on Horne's part ends up costing the state $53,259.52. Now, to be fair, the report is mandated by NCLB, but the fact is that a lot of aspects of the report are frivolous, especially the front cover.

Searching this blog for the keyword "Horne" will turn up ample reasons for his ouster this November.

Add to that the fact that his opponent in the race is a remarkably gifted and experienced man and it seems a slam-dunk to vote for Slade Mead for Superintendent of Public Instruction.
