Mitchell fundraising off to good start.

$213K IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS

TEMPE – U.S. Congressional candidate Harry Mitchell (D-Tempe) raised more than $213,000 for his campaign in less than two weeks, and reported more than $204,000 cash on hand at the end of the March 31 Federal Elections Commission filing deadline.

“I’m incredibly proud of our progress, and truly humbled,” said Mitchell. “Arizonans want change in Washington, and that’s what this campaign is all about.”

Mitchell, a former state senator who also served as mayor of Tempe for 16 years, is challenging U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Scottsdale) in Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District.

The Mitchell-Hayworth race continues to gain national attention:

Last week, Tim Russert, host of NBC’s “Meet the Press” described the Mitchell-Hayworth race as “very tight.”

According to the Christian Science Monitor, Stuart Rothenberg of the Rothenberg Political Report and Amy Walters of the Cook Political Report have added Hayworth to their “watch lists” of incumbents vulnerable to defeat by seasoned challengers.

Two hundred thousand dollars in two weeks is pretty impressive. Of course, Hayworth has a lot of money, but it's a very good launch for Mitchell.
