Happy 100th, Chandler! (Er...not.)

Andrew J. Schwartzberg takes a tongue-in-cheek look at Chandler's "100th" Birthday Celebration downtown, this coming Saturday.

You see, Chandler's 100th birthday is in 2012. Last year, with seven years to go until the centennial, our city's brain trust thought it would be cool to start counting down to this milestone. Yup, that same group of leaders who normally can't form a consensus on whether a circle is round managed to agree that having a celebration for something that's not going to happen for seven years is time and money well spent.

Coincidentally, I'll be celebrating my 39th birthday on Sunday! Or, by the Chandler City Council's logic, I'll be celebrating my 45th, six years early.

Now, how many is that in dog years?
